Mangrove House Guesthouse - an Idyllic Beachfront Escape
The Mangrove House Guesthouse is an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Wake each morning to the peaceful sound of the waves breaking, and spend each night watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Accessible only by boat, this is an extraordinary place to unwind and relax. Visit the market at Lamu, or sail the Indian Ocean. With 2 simple but tasteful bedrooms, delicious food, and beach view like no other, you will be more than happy here.
PLEASE NOTE: Each room is £125 per night in the high season, and £120 in the low season. Please note that it is £125 for 2 people. To use the second bedroom is another £125.
Mangrove House couldn't be closer to the sea front. It is a unique escape, and is incredibly peaceful for any couple or group of friends who want to de-stress. There are two bedrooms. One has a superking double bed, with an overhead fan. The other has 2 antique Swahili single beds (4 ft!), and is an open room, to help guests truly appreciate their surroundings. Both rooms are ensuite. Mangrove House is highly respectful of the environment it is in, and is therefore solar powered.
Food: For a small extra fee, meals can be provided.
The fishermen offer the Mangrove House the pick of their morning catch. We have everything from White and Red Snapper, Tuna, Lobster, Squid, Crabs, and more! We get the fresh vegetables etc from the market in Lamu which is a half hour boat ride away.
Masha, the house manager, is an excellent cook and for a small fee will prepare all the food you need to order, so you are able to relax. We like to give guests as much flexibility as they want with their meals, working around their daily plans, whether they be sailing or sunbathing. You may just want brunch and dinner, or you may want breakfast, lunch and dinner - we can arrange to be adaptable. We can even arrange a picnic or a barbecue!
Guests have access to the whole guesthouse. There are several outdoor spaces for guests to relax, read, and soak in the atmosphere, including, of course, the beach!
Interaction with guests
There is a manager at the house, who will be able to help you with any questions or issues that you might have.
Other things to note
Manda Island is a very special place, with no ground water or electricity supply. The house is therefore served by solar power, and all rubbish is disposed of responsibly.
Please note that there is wifi, however, due to the remoteness of the island, it is not especially fast!
We ask all guests to the island to be aware of the environment.
